RELIEF DISTRIBUTION SCHEME
Reduction in Price of Goods
By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 4
A new scheme for the distribution of relief, whereby those receiving assistance would be required to buy at reduced price the goods they require, was before a meeting of the Metropolitan Relief Association to-day. After a discussion in which the majority of the speakers opposed the scheme, it was referred to a special committee for report. Briefly the scheme is that the association buy goods and sell them below retail price, the difference being borne by the association. The saving to the purchaser is 3d on a 4-lb load, 4d on a pound of butter, 4d on half a pound of tea and 8d on four pounds of moat. It was thug argued that the scheme would help the pride of those disliking to ask for gifts.
