HOUSEHOLD ROUTINE
EXPERIENCED ADVICE. Those who have to do their own housework and who have had no experience may be glad to read this advice from “Housewifery”:— Plan your work and keep as closely as possible to that plan. Keep the whole house tidy doing a part of the extra work each day. Think out your meals for several days ahead. Arrange so that the heavier work is done in the early part of the day, and the worked tidied at a definite hour. Early rising for the housekeeper is essential if the house is to be well managed. Good method and organisation is as necessary in housekeeping as in any other business. If the washing is done fortnightly much of the extra cleaning may he done during the alternate week. Win-dow-cleaning is sometimes done on one special day, or each window when the extra cleaning of the room is done. If vacuum cleaners and dustless mops are available, the house cleaning is greatly lessened. See that you are suitably dressed for the work you are doing. A neat uniform of fadeless material with a cap to cover the hair is much more becoming than a partly worn and much soiled silk frock. A coarse apron and rubber gloves will protect the clothes and hands when black-leading, polishing, etc. Rubber gloves arc very cheap and with care last a long time. DAILY ROUTINE. Light kitchen fire, if coal stove Make porridge. Clean dining-room and front porch or verandah. Pronnrc and servo breakfast. Wash breakfast dishes. Make beds and tidy bedrooms and bathroom. I)i> special work. Tidv ball, passages and r itclicn. Prepare and serve lunch or dinner.
