U.D.F.B.A. DEMONSTRATION

DISPLAY AT WAIPUKURAU TWENTY-TWO TEAMS ENTER From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, April 2. Twenty-two teams competed at the United District Fire Brigades’ Association 's demonstration held at Russell Park, Waipukurau, on Saturday and again to-day. The demonstration drew entries from the following brigades: — Carterton (two teams), Dannevirke (three), Eastbourne (one), Eketahuna (one), Hastings (two), Lower Hutt (two), Mas terton (two), Petone (two), Taihape (two), Waipukurau (three), Waipawa (one).

Though the weather was dull and cold, the rain held off and enabled the day’s events to be run off without a hitch, a high-pressure water supply being maintained throughout at 1301bs. During the day refreshments were dispensed by a committee of Waipukurau ladies, headed by Mrs J. A. Chambers. The demonstration will be completed on Monday. RESULTS OF EVENTS. Result swere as follow :— One-mau championship (first pnze £1 10/-, Camel Cup and Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce gold medal).— Carterton A (Fireman H. Matson), 46 1-soccs., 1; Hastings A, 51 3-ssocs., 2; Hastings B, 53 3-ssocs., 3; Dannevirke A, 61 3-ssecs. Also competed: Dannevirke B, 64 1-5; Mastorton A, 68 1-5; Petone B, 68 1-5; Petono A, 68 1-5; Waipukurau A, 77; Masterton B, 76 3-5; Eketahuna A, 82 3-5; Carter ton B.

The Seipst Cup, for most points in all events resulted.—Carterton (87J) 1, Petone (73) 2, Masterton (43) 3, Waipukurau (41J) 4. Napier Supply Company Shield, for most points for one, two and threemen events, resulted.—Carterton (39) 1, Masterton (23) 2, Dannevirke (21) and Petono (21) 3 equal, Hastings (20) 4, Lower Hutt (14) 5, Waipukurau (13) 6.

This evening the visiting firemen and officials were entertained at a smekeconcert in the Masonic Hall, where Mr A. E. .lull, M.P , presented the prizes to the successful teams.
