EUGENICALLY UNFIT
Sterilisation Resolution “HYSTERICAL AGITATION’’ (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 17. As a protest against the passing, by the Justices of Peace Association, of a resolution favouring sterilisation of the eugenically unfit, the Hon. C J. Carrington, though retaining his justice’s commission, has resigned from the Auckland branch of the association. “The legislative results of hysterical eugenical agitation,” states Mr. Carrington in a letter to the registrar, “will be tyranny and a disregard of personal liberty by means of this system of arbitrary State inquisition without which the enactment would be unworkable.” Mr. Carrington states that classification of the unfit is a very wide one. “The object of the association,” he adds, “is repugnant to the Christian foundation of our country’s laws and conditions of justice, and is tantamount to changing from the worship of God to the worship of man.”
