CROQUET TOURNAMENT
PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. The very successful and altogether enjoyable tournament, organised by the H.B. Croquet Association has now terminated, after more than a week of strenuous play and very exciting matches. On Tuesday afternoon the ceremony of presenting the trophies took place at the Hastings Club’s green. Mrs. Bailey (Napier), president of the association, made an excellent speech of congratulation to the winners, and then handed the trophies to Airs. Garnett, senr., patroness of the Hastings Chib, to present to the winners. Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Rowe (association secretary) were each given a gift in appreciation of their services in organising the tournament. The trophies were won as follows:— Championship, open singles: Mrs. Gambrill 1; Mrs. .Watkins runner-up. Championship doubles: Mrs. Watkins and Mr. H. Stratton 1; Mesdanies Gambril! and Pitcaithly runners-up. Handicap doubles: Mesdames Esson and Duff 1; Mrs. Petersen and Mr. H. Stratton runners-up. A grade Handicap singles (first section) : Mr. Stratton 1; Mrs. Ball runner-up. A grade (second section): Airs. Cadwaflader (Wellington) 1; Airs. Wilson (Havelock North) runner-up. G grade handicap: Mrs. Boyle 1.; Airs. Petersen runner-up. On Wednesday afternoon, after a morning contest, Airs. Pitcaithly, gecreI tary of the Hastings Club, in the absence of the president, presented the trophy to Airs. Watkins for winning the final of the ladies’ championship. Mrs. Tiffen was runner-up.
