CIRCLE MEETINGS. On Wednesday afternoon the annual meetings of both the Play-reading and Music Circles were held. Mrs. Perrin was again elected leader of the play-reading circle, and with the help of Mrs. E. V. Simpson and Mrs. G. Davies will manage the playreading for this season. It was decided that the play “Outward Bound” will be given later in the year. It was decided that the first reading bo held at the beginning of May on Wednesday. Mrs. Perrin will finalise this. MUSIC CIRCLE. Mrs. Christie, who has been leader of this circle since 1932, presented her annual report and was thanked, with acclamation for her excellent work. Mrs. Christie resigned from the leadership, and the meeting decided that a committee of six now manage the music circle as the work is too much for one person alone. The following committee were nominated: — Mrs. Christie, Miss H. Ford, Miss Alice Fox, Mrs. W. G. Stead, Miss Fitzroy, Mrs. D. Hursthouse and others as decided later. It was decided that in view of the Brahms Centenary on May 7th the first meeting of the Music Circle be a Brahms evening, on May 10th. Miss Hoby, of Havelock North, has kindly consented to arrange this evening. Miss G. Grant has promised to help later in the season, and musical circle members can look forward to other specially good meetings. New members are invited. MUSIC CIRCLE REPORT. Mrs. Christie presented the following report:— “The Music Circle commenced its season in May, 1932, with a miscellaneous programme and then wc farewelled Mrs. Evelyn Barley who was leaving for Timaru and who had always been a welcome performer at our club functions. Mrs. Barley sang for us and also Mesdames Spinney, Budd, and Misses McGrath and Cuming played piano solos. In June, Mrs. Spinney, and Miss Perry performed and the rest of the meeting was taken up with a demonstration of book binding by Miss Eleanor Adkins. In July Miss Steele gave a delightful paper on Mozart, illustrated by songs, and piano and violin solos by Misses Steele, Christie, Perry, and a gramophone kindly lent by Mr. Bewley. The August meeting was delightful. Mrs. Blait gave a talk on Grieg and Miss Stollery read the Peer Gynt story from which Grieg composed his suite. The talk was illustrated by piano and vi'blin items and the artists were Miss Russell, Misses Frances and Alice Fox, Mrs Blair, and Miss Lock. “In September Mrs. Prime brought a concert party from Napier who gave an excellent entertainment of songs, ducts and trios. The last programme was from Schubert, arranged by Miss Steele and this proved very enjoyable indeed. The music circle arranged the items for the birthday party and there was also an open evening to which all members contributed. “As leader of the Music Circle 1 wish to thank all the artistes who gave us such interesting programmes, also the circle members for their support, and the Press for the very full reports of our meetings.”
