CREOSOTE OIL
SUBSTITUTE FOR PETROL BELFAST CHEMISTS’ DISCOVERY FORMULA BROADCAST THROUGHOUT EMPIRE (United Press Association—By Cable— Copyright.) (Received 31, 12.55 p.m.) ’ London, Oct. 30. The "Daily Express’’ Belfast correspondent states that three chemists at the Belfast gasworks have perfected a discovery of creosote oil as a substitute for petrol, which it is believed will ultimately halve Britain’s motor fuel bill. The Belfast gasworks arc producing the substance at the rate of 500,000 gallons a year, and it is eagerly snapped up at sixpence a gallon. A local bus company converted its fleet to its use, and effected a saving of a penny a mile. One hundred private ears there are using it. In London several provincial and city bus companies are experimenting with it. The new oil is already being produced at Manchester, and the formula has already been broadcast throughout the Empire. A representative of the Commonwealth Government who studied the methods here on his way back recommends its encouragement and production throughout Australia.
