ACCIDENT? AND FATALITIES
Frederick William Atkins, enginedriver, was killed at Taihape on Saturday night. He fell in front of an engine that was shunting and was push along by the cowcatcher. He was badly crushed internally but escaped the wheels. He died on the way to hospital. A married man with three children, be had been stationed at Taihape for eight years. At the inquest to-day a verdict of accidental death was returned, no blame being attachable to anyone. Mr. E. L, Harvey, a prominent settler. dairy director nn<l sportsman, of Pnhiatun, was mustering when his horse fell and rolled on him. Harvev, whose icg was fractured, had an agonising climb some distance up a hill. He then threw stones at his horse which attracted attention by its galloping, assistance resulting.
