ARCHAELOGICAL TRIUMPH
PROFESSOR’S DISCOVERY ON MOUNT CUMAE.
(“Times” Cable.) (Received 13, 12.45 p.m.) London, Oct. 12. “The Times” Rome correspondent describes one of the greatest archaeological triumphs of recent years. Professor Maiuri, superintendent oi antiquities, discovered on the west side Of Mount Cumae a cave in which the Sibyl of Canae delivered to Aeneas the oracles that predicted the foundation of Rome.
Professor Maiuri was exploring a wine cellar when he discovered a corridor exactly as described in the sixth book of Virgil’s Aenead. It ended in the vaulted chamber in which the Sibyl dwelt
