FRIESIAN RECORD FOR WAIRARAPA

NEW FIGURES SET BY DALEFIELD COW.

The highest milk and butterfat records ever made by a Friesian cow on C.O.R. test in the Wairarapa district are those of Tunanui Domino Agnes 4th, a pedigree Friesian cow tested during the past season by Mr E. Knutson, of Dalefield. This cow yielded during her 365 days on test 27305.1 lb. milk and 927.55 lb. fat. Besides being records for Wairarapa these figures are the fourth best for milk production and the twelfth best for butterfat production for Friesians tested in the Dominion.

Commencing her test at the age of 6yrs. 248 day*, Tnnanui Domino Ague* 4th quickly cdmmeuced to make the foundation for a big record, and maintained a particularly high standard throughout her test. That she is one of the greatest allround cows in New Zealand to-day is shown by the fact that before Tunanui Domino Agness 4th was tested, she proved herself a cow of great type by winning the Friesian championship at the 1930 Wellington Winter Show, and the reserve championship at the 1930 Royal Show, while during the time she was on test she was adjudged not only the champion Friesian cow, but also the champion cow of all dairy breeds at the 1931 Wairarapa Show. It is also worthy of note that Mr Knutson’s cow is the only Friesian cow in this Dominion who has received championship mention at a Royal Show as well as having a record over 9001 b. fat. Bred by Sir A. H. Russell, of Hastings, Tunanui Domino Agnes 4th was purchased when a two-year-old by Mr Knutson for 13gns. at a breeders’ consignment sale at Carterton, held in May, 1927. American blood-lines dominate the pedigree of this “bargain” cow, three of her grand-parents being imported from the United States, while the fourth grand-parent is Domino Bth (Allah —Domino), a cow of pure Dutch blood whose sire was imported from Now South Wales, and whose dam was one of the original imported to New Zealand from Holland.

The sire of Tunanui Domino Agnes 4th is Mutual Pearl Plebe (Mutual Piebe of Rock—Mutual Pearl of Rock, 9031 b. fat) who wa* on* of the best

bulls M his day, winning many, championships including the 1927 Royal honour, while the following year ho was reserve for the same honour. Woodcrest Domino (Woodcrest Pietje Pontiac—Domino Bth), the dam of Tunanui Domino Agnes 4th, is a paternal sister of sucii great producers as Westmere Netherland Princess, 8781 b. fat, and Pontiac Princess, 8311 b. fat It will therefore be seen that for production, type, and proven ancestry Tunanui Domino Agnes 4th i» second to none.
