GENERAL NOTES

It was stated after he met with his mishap some time back that Pillow Fight would not race until the A.R.C. meeting at Elllerslie in November, but apparently plans have been changed as he figures among the acceptors for the Champion Hack event at Avondale on Saturday.

Even the most conservative of bodies are coining into line with the times. A sub-committee of the Canterbury Jockey Otab is considering the advisability of providing a 5/- window at its totalisator according to a statement made by Mr George Gould, chairman of the club. Mr Gould mentioned this fact at a meeting of the club last Monday in response to a question. He said that while the club did not intend to cease issuing £1 tickets, it was considering selling 5/- tickets and ringing them on to the machine.

Russky, a three-year-old by Diac-

quenod from Minsk, and the two-year-old col't by Limond from Mirabelle IL, will leave Auckland on Friday to join J. T. Jamieson’s team at Randwick.

The Acre gelding Cadland, writes “Hurry On,” likes the Otaki course. He had his first race there on November 20, 1929. when he spreadeagled the field in the Puhi Maiden Plate on the first day. On the second day he was produced in the Pukekaraka Hack and passed the post four lengths in front of Marica, the second horse. Ho was there again at the winter meeting of the same season, and with 8.11 on his back had no difficulty in silencing the opposition in the Waitohu Hack, and

on the second day he lumped 9.6 home in the final event. Friday’s race was his fifth start on the course, and despite his steadier of 9.8 and the fact that he was having his first race for five months, he was again the one to salute the judge. Five starts for five wins on one course is certainly a great record.

W. Rayner has left Wanganui for Auckland with Midinette, Pomp, and Spiral, who are to fulfil their engagements at the Avondale meeting, to be held on Saturday and Monday next. B. H. Morris will ride Midinette in her engagements — the Champion Hack Plate on the first day and the Guineas on Monday. The Limond —Motley filly has not yet had a race this season, but her track work has been of a very attractive order, and she should run well in her engagements. E. Ludlow will have the mount on Pomp in the Henderson Handicap on Saturday, in which the son of Absurd has 7.7. He is a very fit horse, and if handled to the best advantage Pomp should be hard to beat in his engagements. • • • The following riding engagements have been announced for the Avondate meeting:—R. McTavish: Valroe, Lady Lulu, Gay Rose, My Money (second day); E. Manson: Pelagia, Prolyxo; K. Voitre: Royal Artist, Princess Doreen, Tea Trader; W. J. McDowell: La Moderne, Gay Cockade, Landlubber, Solomon (second day); L. J. Ellis: Lack (Guineas), Gipsy Love, Royal Gallant; H. Gilmer: Whakapara, Glenrata, Sweet Whisper; E. Ludlow: Te Hoia; F. McGovern: Marching Song (second day); F. E. Baker: Lady Winifrede; L. Dulieu: Tarporley, Supreme Ruler, Imamint, Claremore; H. Dulieu : Royal Survey; A. G.
