MEETING OE COMMITTEE. MEMENTO OE HEADMASTER, The August meeting of the’ Mahora School Committee was held in the schoolroom; and was attended by Messrs. C. Lassen (chairman), J. E. Hall, J. Arrell, J. Howard, R. Short, J. Wise, A. Wilkie, and C. Carrell (secretary). Mr. R. Gray was igranted leave of absence. The retiring headmaster, Mr. W. T. Chaplin, also was present. Resignations were received from Miss I. Cormack (infant mistress) and Mr. W. T. Chaplin (headmaster). —It was decided to accept the resignations with regret and to place on record the long and faithful service of the headmaster. The headmaster’s report showed a roll number of 684 and an average attendance of 620. The roll number at the end of the term was 668 and it was estimated that the number had decreased by 30 owing to the increase of the age of admission from 5 to 6 years. This being the headmaster’s last meeting, the chairman and all members spoke of the good feeling existing between the headmaster and the committee and expressed.their personal thanks for his great assistance during their term of office. It was decided to ask Mr. Chaplin to sit for his photograph and that an enlargement be hung in the headmaster’s office. It was also decided to procure copies of the farewell function to be framed and hung in the school corridor. Mr. Chaplin replied to the wishes and acknowledged the assistance that all committees had given him. A vote of thanks was passed to all workers who had assisted at the farewell functions. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. A. Hay for the tuition of the children for the boxing tournament and to Mr. J. Stickland and the Boxing Association for thb interest shown in arranging the tournament. It was decided to continue the 500 evenings and dance, the next to be on Friday evening, September 2. The meeting closed with the committee wishing the retiring headmaster Godspeed on leaving his last meeting.
