"Most of you probably imagine that Westland is perpetually covered by ice end snow, but I can assure you that Westland has the finest dairying climate in New Zealand,” said Mr. C. Hume, Dominion Organiser of the N.Z. Herd-Testing Federa'.ion d-inng an address to dairy-farmers in Hastings this afternoon. In the first year of herdtesting in Westland, 3000 out of 12,000 cows were being tested. In the second year 6000 were being tested, and again this year fifty per cent, or more of all the cows would be tested. "Our system ol herd-testing.” Mr Hume added, “has done more for Westland than ever was done by all the politi. clans put together. There was a land that was crying out for population, and now, owing to the publicity given to their increased dairy-production returns, they are getting the population that they wanted. The average in the second year of testing was 2341b5. a eow, which already compares very favourably with the Hawke’s Bay average ' of 2501b5.”
