LABOUR AND UNEMPLOYMENT
AMALGAMATION OF DEPARTMENTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, June 14. Consequent on the retirement of Mr. Newton from the secretaryship of Labour, the Public Service Commissioner announces that opportunity is being taken to give effect to the Government's decision to amalgamate the Departments of Labour and Unemployment, and the Commissioner of Unemployment, M* G. C. Godfrey, has assumed duties rs permanent head of the combined departments. It is said that the effect of the amalgamation will be to place the control and management of all matters pertaining to labour and unemployment under one head. The existing organisation of the Labour Department will now be more directly available for unemployment problems throughout New Zealand.
