WAIPAWA
(Own Correspondent.) “I notice a number of vehicles and cycles are being used with insufficient lights, and in some cases no lights. This is a very dangerous practice and should be stopped,” said the county engineer (Mr Bond) in his report to the Waipawa Council yesterday. It was decided to draw the traffic inspector’s attention to the matter, “Since taking up work ot county ranger, pro tem (a month ago) I have removed 273 head of stock from the roads,” said the Waipawa County ranger in his report to the council, which met yesterday. “A great number of lorries are being overloaded at present—especially those used for carting sheep,” said the engineer of the Waipawa County Council at the meeting yesterday. “It is playing up with the roads badly,” he added. “I think we should push for a settlement of this hawking question,” said Mr F. Holt, clerk of the Waipawa County Council at the meeting yesterday of that body, when remits to be forwarded to the forthcoming counties’ conference were under discussion. “The boroughs will be pushing for that,” said Cr. N. M. Paulsen. “Wellington firms are hawking goods round to the door,” he added. Cr. B. Gray: “It’s not fair to the local traders.” It was decided to bring forward a remit suggesting that a suitable by-law be drafted
