NEWS AND NOTES. (Special Representative.) Miss J. Riddell. Mt. Herbert, has left on a visit to Palmerston North. Mi' D. Erwin, of the Union Bank of Australia’s staff, Waipukurau, is a visitor to Wellington. Messrs W. H. Rathbone and P. R. Smyrk, chairman and secretary, respectively, of the Waipawa Hospital Board, returned yesterday after attending the Hospital Boards' annual conference in Wellington. Mr 11. V. Hill, of Porangahau, lias returned to his home after having been an inmate of a private hospital al " aipukurau for some weeks. It is pleasing to report that .Mr » !■'. Brandon continues to make good progress towards recovery from Ins somewhat lengthy illness. Not a little interest was displayed by those who happened to be abroad in Waipukurau yesterday afternoon when a lady on horse-back passed through the town. Had the horsewoman made a similar appearance a. quarter of a century back the occurrence would not have occasioned remark, but it is not customary nowadays for ladies to use a side-saddle. The annual reunion of the Waipukurau district Returned Soldiers' Association w-as held last evening Mr A. O. Williams presiding over a very large attendance, there being a considerable number of visitors including Sir Andrew Russell, K.C.M.G. The usual toasts were interspersed by uu excellent musical programme and a thoroughly enjoyable evening was spent by all. The Bishop of Waiapu, visited We’ pukurau during the xveek-end conducting all the services at St. Mary’s Church and also preached at Flemington in the afternoon. At the confirmation service held in the evening, thirty-two candidates were confirmed by the Bishop.
