COST OF LIVING BIG FALL RECORDED. RETAIL PRICES CHEAPER. .'United Press Association—By CableCopyright.) (Received 26, 10.30 a.m.) Sydney, January 26. The annual labour report by the Commonwealth Statistician shows a big fall in the cost of living in Australia since 1929. The report shows that retail prices for groceries, on an average, were 14 per cent, cheaper in 1930 than in 1929, dairy produce is 9 per cent lower and meat 6 per cent. down. The fall continued into 1931, and had increased to over 20 per cent, for food in June. The average nominal weekly wage in Australia was 101 s 5d for adult males and 44s 2d for adult females as at September, 1929. Since then wages had declined steadily. At the end of 1930 the corresponding rates were 96s fid and 53s 7d per week.
