HOUSING OF COWS
EFFICIENT DANISH METHOD. Tho efficiency of Danish methods m the housing of cows was noted by Mr E. R. Davis, of Auckland, who is at present on an extended tour abroad. In a letter received by Mr Wendell Phillips, of Waiare Model Piggeries, Limited, Mr Davis states: “Although this is the Danish winter their milk supply is just as good as at any other time of the year, for the simple reason that they keep their cows warm and well fed. Think what it would mean to New Zealand to have an equal supply all the year round instead of supplies dropping away by half. If the Government gave employment in building something like the Danish stables for housing cows in winter, the farmer equid pay off the principal and interest in the six months of the winter season by the increased production. “To start with the stables need not be so elaborate as they have in Denmark, and later the farmers could build proper ones themselves. One would think that the actual stabling presents difficulties but this is far from being the case.”
