FREEZING WORKS BUSY

KILLINGS AT HOROTIU. ADDITIONAL PLANT NECESSARY. Hamilton, Jan. 23. A very busy period is being experienced at the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company’s works at Horotiu, where 250 men are employed, principally on preparing meat for the export trade. Since the beginning of the lamb season between 70,000 and 80,000 lambs have been killed and placed in storage. The average number killed a day was formerly 3000, but this average has now dropped to 2000. In addition. 500 pigs and 60 head of cattle are being killed daily. There has been a shortage of shipping lately and the freezing chambers at the works are nearly filled. A consignment of carcases will be sent to Auckland for shipment to England at the end of this month. The increased pressure at the works has necessitated th© installation of additional freezing plant, which is expected to be put into operation next month.
