GENERAL NOTES

The many friends of the crosscountry horseman Alan McDonald will regret to learn that he has not made the recovery from the injuries he re ceived at the Grand National meeting that could have been desired. He has now decided to enter a hospital at Rotorua for treatment. Merry Damon has been on the easy list for some time past, but is again being speeded up. Last year he was most unlucky in the Manawatu Cup, but he is not to be given an opportunity to make amends this Christmas, tor he has been entered in the Grandstand Handicap in preference. # * * The Ngingongmgo appeal case will be heard in Christchurch next Friday The three appeal judges are Mr H. F. Nicoll, of Ashburton, president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, who will be chairman of the tribunal, Mr. B S. Irwin, of Dunedin, president of the Forbury Park Trotting Club, and Mr. A. T. Donnelly, of Christchurch, Crown solicitor. The case arises out of the sentence of disqualification for 12 months imposed upon Ngingongingo and his driver, Andrew Bryce, after winning the Labour Day Handicap at Epsom on October 26. An appeal by Bryce on behalf of the horse and himself was upheld by the New Zealand Trotting Association, and the Auckland Trotting Club is now appealing against this decision. « • • Atholspear is in something like his best form again. He raced well but unluckily at Feilding Better luck may be experienced with him before long. Grand Talk, who accounted for the Taumarunui Cup, ran several fair races last season, her best performance being dead-heating with Gay Idea in the Hikutaia Hack Cup, 8)- furlongs, at L’e Aroha. She is a four-year-old filly by Grandcourt from Tall Talk (a sister to Bobrikoff). Grand Talk was bred by Mr. T. H. Lowry and cost Mr. H. Spinks, her owner, 50gs as a yearling at the Trentham sales # » ♦ The promising two-year-old Kiltowyn is owned and trained at Ellerslie by Mr. A. D. Potter, well known in Hastings racing circles. He is said to show a lot of quality and to be a goodconstitutioned juvenile, resembling his sire Kilbroney to a marked degree. His dam, Towyn, is by Lucullus from Congress, the dam of Dave, a useful sprinter in the Auckland district a season or two ago. His granddam, Te Humga, is by Hotchkiss from Sunningdale, and is also the dam of Tahua, who produced Tamatete, Tukia and Freehold. is » * Advance Camp has made great progress since he commenced hurdling at the Waikato spring meeting. He ran third in the Wainiai Hurdles on the first day and won the Matangi Hurdles on the concluding day in very easy style. His next effort was at Taumarunui on Friday last, when he succeeded again. On Saturday he was just beaten by a horse to which he was conceding 181 b. Advance Camp displays plenty of pace and is a good type of jumper, who should eventually do well over country. * * * Ganpat,. who was bred and raced by Mr. J. 8. McLeod, of Hastings, and has been trained by J. T. Jamieson for some time past, has been sold to Mrs Hurley, of Wanganui, and has entered E. Pope’s stable at Takanini. Ganpat 1 is n four-year-old gelding by Lord Quos

from Queen Lizzie, and is a halfbrother to Tiega and a full-brother to Gesto. He has raced well in Auckland and is to keep his engagement at the Waipawa meeting at Te Awamutu next Saturday.
