OLD BOYS’ SURPRISE DEFEAT SECOND INNINGS COLLAPSE There' was rather a surprise in the first round of the Central Hawke’s Bay cricket competitions on Saturday when Old Boys, last year’s champions, who had a commandin' lead over Eparaima in the first innings, failed to obtain the required number of runs in the second innings, Eparaima winning by 20. In the first innings Eparaima had been disposed of for 54 whilst Old Boys had mad e 91. Eparaima’s second strike realised 118. Hartland and McLean putting on a good first wicket partnership of 64, Hartland making 27 and McLean 37. Other double figure scorers were: Wilson 21 not out and R. P. Wilder 10. Bowling for Old Boys, Elliott, who was not tried until sixth change, took four wickets for 24, Spencer three for 25, and Smales one for 8.
Old Boys’ second innings produced Cl, the only batsman to show any form being Guy with 18. Eparaima's success, ful bowlers were: McLean three for 14. A. S. Wilder two for 12, Douglas two for 14, Nelson on G for 18.
