AUCKLAND Auckland, Dec. 27. The Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting opened in brilliant weather at Alexandra Park to-day, The attendance was large and the track was in perfect order. The totalisator handled £55,462, compared with £61.709 on the first day last year, representing a decrease oil £6.247. Late results:— Christmas Handicap, 2 miles.—2 Mr. H. A. Swaffield's Gold Treasure (A. J. Julian) 1, 5 Dealer 2, 1 Mig-> nonne 3. Also ran: 3 All Red, 6 Glandore, 6 Master Huia, 4 Country King. Mignonne got a bad start. Won by a long neck, third five lengths away. Master Huia wan fourth. Time 4.33 2-5. Association Handicap, 2 miles.—l! Mr. G. J. Barton’s Surprise Journey I, 8 Maxegin 2, 7 Ukulele Lady 3. Also ran: 2 Etta Cole, 9 Gold Sovereign, 10 Mutu. 12 The Tartar, 5 Akenehi, 6 Peter McKinney, 11 Tiger Salve, 3 Raima, 4 Tonic and Writer (bracketed). Surprise "Journey, who was in the van throughout, withstood strong challenges by Maxegin and Ukulele Lady to win by a head from the former, with Ukulele Lady half a head further back third. Turning for home at the head of g well bunched field. King Country broke, leaving Nella Dillon to lead into the straight. Finishing well she won by a head, with a neck between the next two. Belle Axworthy was fourth. Time, 2.50. Akarana Handicap, 1J mile.—3 Mr J. W. Murphy’s Baron Bingen (C. SDonald) 1, 6 Dan Direct 2,2 Arethusa 3. STEWARDS’ TO KITTY PATCH. Carterton, Dee. 27. The conehvling rh' v of the Wairatapa Trots was belli in scorching weather and before a moderate at-
tendance. There were good fields and splendid racing prevailed, but there was an absence of investments. A marked drop in the figures for the two days of £5,630 took place. The total for the second day was £5,211 and for the meeting £12,696. The second race of the day was responsible for a meeting of the stewards to inquire into the running of the winner of the Tqratahi Handicap. After an exhaustive meeting the owner was warned. Late results :— Martinborough Handicap.—4 Lady Coronado 1, 3 Whippett 2, 6 Bara Gold 3. All started. Won by three lengths. Time, 3.31 2-5. Taratahi Handicap.—2 Guy McElwyn 1, i Effigy 2, 3 Bessie Bingen 3. Scratched: Finoro. Won by a length and a half. Time, 3.47. Carterton Handicap Ailsa Bingen 1, 3 Mr. Guy 2, 4 Huia Maid 3.
