FARMERS’ UNION

SOCIAL AND DANCE. A social and dance was given cn Wednesday evening in the Assembly Hall by the H.B. Branch of the Farmers’ Union to welcome the visiting farmers mid their wives, from North Auckland, who spent Wednesday in the Napier and Hastings districts, while on their tour of New Zealand. Mr. G. F. Roach welcomed the visitors, and Mr. Kay, from North Auckland, responded. The evening was spent in dancing to the' strains of Miss Williams’ orchestra, with interludes for music. Supper was served which had been arranged by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, who worked hard at their part of the entertainment. The tables had been prettily decorated by Mrs Balharry, Mrs F. Field, and Miss J. McLennan, with carnations. Iceland poppies and heath, interspersed with other autumn flowers and foliage. Many of the flowers, which were much admired, had been given bv Mr. Bernard Chambers, Te Mata. Everyone spent a very pleasant evening, and the dancing of the Lancers caused much fun. and effectively dispelled any formality. Mrs Mcßae Auckland), pale green and cream floral crepe-de-chine, with a brocaded bridge coat trimmed with fur. Mrs Kay (North Auckland), black taffetas frock, with black laoe drapery failing to a pointed hemline. Miss Evans (North Auckland), Eau-de-Nil frock of georgette, with a vand.yl>ed coatee, and deep hem of green net. Miss Wilson (North Auckland), pretty ivory georgette model, with tiny frills inset as godets. Mrs Tomlinson, handsome model of sapphire-blue satin beaute, with a draped skirt dipping from a hip yoke, and relief of shrimp georgette. Mrs Thompson, pale apple-green georgette dress, with a tiered skirt. Mrs G. F. Roach, long and graceful gown of black embossed chenillegeorgette, with a fur wrap. Mrs Glenny. smart frock of black lace made on flared uneven lines to a long dipping hern, and worn with a fur wrap. Mrs Lovell-Smith, becoming model of black knife-pleated flounced georgette, with a chiffon velvet bridge coat. Mrs Dave Wilson, effective gown of oak brown chenille-georgette, with a handsome wrap. Mrs Lean, rose pink georgette, embroidered in colours, and a floral chiffon velvet bridge coat to tone. Mrs Evans, black gown beautifully embroidered, with sequins and beads in a striking pointed design. Mrs Webb, pretty frock of pale green georgette inset with lace of the same shade. « Mrs Milsom charming frock of deep cranberry-red mariette. with draperies falling in soft flared lines, relieved with bands of gold brocaded lame. Mrs Hutchinson, model frock of black chiffon, with a deeply flared pointed hem-line, and a fur wrap. Miss Jean McLennan, flame taffetas and apricot georgette dress, with a cross-over bodice of taffetas ending in a hip bow, and a skirt of georgette with peaked taffetas hem. Miss Roach, long and becoming dress of black ring velvet patterned with roses, made with a tierod dipping skirt. Miss Rona Hutchinson long bouffant frock of flame ring velvet appliqued in colours, with a dipping hem of flame net. Miss C. Hutchinson, pietty pink frock, with a mauve bridge coat. Miss Waldron, black taffetas dress with a diamante buckle, and red shoulder flower.

Miss Tomlinson, jade green frock of mariette with an uneven hem and long bodice of lace. Miss Joyce Scott, palest green georgette falling in soft points oevr lace with a large bustle bow in maize tones. Miss Bullen, emerald green georgette frock with a bodice and hem of floral georgette in autumn tones. Miss Benton, maize satin beaute model with relief of silk net. Miss Doris Osborne, daintily flared frock of shell-pink and cherry floral taffetas. Miss Grigor unusual dress of deen nastel blue georgette, with a full skirr, of flared petals of pieot edged gerigette. Miss Lovell-Smith, black taffetas dress inset with pale rose taffetas, with a bouffant skirt; and her sister, Joan, in pale blue satin and ecru lace. Miss Jean Harrison, long and striking frock of hydrangea blue moire chiffon velvet, with shoes of the same shade. Miss Nelly Dykes (Napier), pretty dress of turquoise blue with long handkerchief points falling to an uneven hem-line.
