HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PRELIMINARY BUSINESS. NOTICE OF INTENTION TO INTRODUCE BILLSWellington, June 26. When the House of Representatives resumed after hearing the GovernorGeneral’s Speech, the Speaker reported the results of the by-elections at Hutt and ParnelL Messrs W. Nash and W. Endean were thereupon sworn in, Messrs D. G. Sullivan and E. J. Howard acting as sponsors for the former and Messrs J. Bitehener and A. Harris for the latter. Notice of intention was given to ask leave to introduce the following bills:—Rating Amendment Bill (Mr H. G. K. Mason), Coroners Amendment Hill (Mr C. E. Macmillan), New Zealand Institute of Architects Amendment Bill (Mr B. A. Wright), Local Elections and Polls Amendment Bill (Mr H. G. R. Mason), City of Christchurch Sinking Fund Commissioners Empowering Bill (Mr D. G. Sullivan). Replying to Mr G. C. Black (Motueka), Mr Forbes said the central earthquake committee would meet at an early date to consider applications for assistance and all other matters. The Prime Minister, replying to Mr W. E. Parry (Auckland Central) said the matter of coping with cases of distress owing to the unemployment was in the hands of the hospital boards, who were subsidised by the Government at the rate of £1 for £1 for work of that nature. Mr C. H. Clinkard (Rotorua) gave notice of his intention to move a respectful Address-in-Reply to His Excellency’s Speech. The House rose at 4.15 till 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
