OTANE

(Own Correspondent), A committee meeting of the Public Library was held on Thursday night. Present; The Rev. Hall. Messrs. J. Mcßae (chair), T. A. Ridge, A. E. Biack, J. N. Barrie and W. Spargo. The secretary reported that the bank overdraft had been reduced since the end of 1929 from £2OO to £135, but that there were outstanding accounts to the. amount of £5O .this being principally for fencing. These amounts were passed for payment. Correspondence was received! from tho Plunket Society donating £5 towards the cost of the fencing, from the Town Board donating £3 3/-, and from the dental clinic donating £2 2/-. The Women’s Institute asked for the use of the library room for committee meetings.—lt was decided to let the room for that purpose, providing it was not otherwise engaged on that afternoon, the charge to be 12/- for six meetings.

The chairman reported that a working committee had gone through the books and rejected a number, which were for disposal; also that a large number bad 1 been put aside for repairing. The question of buying new books was gone into and it was decided to try and place at least one new book on the catalogue every week.

Mr. A. Knight was present on the invitation of the committee and the question of the proper care of the clock donated by him was fully discussed, when a satisfactory arrangement was entered into by the committee, Mr. Knight being thanked for the deep interest that he had shown in the welfare of the library. A set of rules for the guidance of the librarian was adopted. It was decided to hold a meeting on the ground at 2 p.m. on Saturday to make arrangements for planting the grounds around the building.
