IMPORTANT MISSION
CONTROL OF PLANT DISEASE. DR. CUNNINGHAM’S INVESTIGATIONS. (Per Association.' Palmerston N., Nov. 12. On a mission which means a great deal to the eed industry of this Dominion and the scientific development of disease-free crops, Dr. Cunningham, chief mycologist of the plant research station at Palmerston North, is entering on the final stage of an extensive tour abroad. As representative of New Zealand he attended the Imperial Mycological Conference in London for the second occasion, and when he returns it is anticipated that highly important information will be available concerning the methods of control of plant disease in other countries. From Canada Dr. Cunningham has arranged for shipments to the Dominion of disease-freo lines of potatoes, turnips and swedes if suitable to be propagated on arcars at Massey College and in the South Island.
In England Dr. Cunningham investigated the problem of swede seed free from dry rot, urging growers there to take precautions against disease. Another line of investigation dealt with tho views on disease in potatoes.
Dr. Cunningham expects to return in January.
