SHEFFIELD SHIELD. VICTORIA v. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. (Received 3. 8.50 a.m.) Adelaide, Dec. 2. The Sheffield Shield match, South Australia v. Victoria, opened yesterday. Both sides were weakened by the absence of the stalwarts playing in the Test. Blackie was also unable to play for Victoria. The wicket and the weather were good. South Australia won the toss, and batted, making 582, or 8 runs less than the record made by South Australia in the Sheffield Shield match in 1910 (V. Richardson 29, Harris 155, Hone 137. I’ellew 64, Whitfield 66). Bowling for Victoria. Mullet took four wickets for 174. Morton two for 139, Ebeling two for 130. Lansdown two for 43. Victoria in the first innings have lost three wickets for 123 (Onyons not out 53).
