“The N.Z. Banker,” referring to the retirement of Mr. H. J. King, of the stationery department of the Bank of New Zealand's head office, says: “Everybody will be sorry to lenrn that Mr. H. J. King has been compelled to relinquish his bank duties because of his ill-health. In his younger days Mr. King was a great grafter and the speed with which he used to hand out the glittering gold was the envy and despair of all tellers In fact, he would hand you seventy million of the best as easily as anyone else would promise it. Even in later years, though broken in health. Mr King, as president of the Guild, devoted much time and energy to his official duties, and all members who are benefiting to-day from the good work the Guild is doing, should know that it was mainly owing to the coolness and level-headedness of its first president, who helped to mould the infant Guild on lines of reason and common-sense, and so paved the way to ihe success which it has since achieved. It was because of these invaluable services that he was elected a life member of the Guild. Mr. King is taking up residence in Hastings, where we trust the beneficent climate will prove a sound investment from his health’s point of view.” Mr. King is a brother of Mrs Will Jones, of Hastings, and he has two daughters. Miss Joan King, on the literary staff of the “Hawke's Bay Tribune,” and Miss Betty King, of the H.B Farmers’ Meat Company’s clerical department.
