WAIPAWA BOARD MONTHLY MEETING. GENERAL BUSINESS. The usual monthly meeting of the Waipawa Hospital Board was held in Maipukurau yesterday. Present: Mr W. H. Rathbone (chairman), Sister F. K. Anderson, and Messrs L. M. Monckton, J. A. Kerr, R. A. Fraser, F. J. Witherow, N. G. Hawthorn, and Percy Hunter. The Hawke’s Bay Board wrote suggesting that a round-table conference be held to discuss the question of tho expenditure on the Park Island piggeries. The Dannevirke Board advised that in its opinion such a conference is unnecessary.—Mr Fraser moved and Mr Kerf seconded a motion to the effect that, pending the final settlement of the matter at issue, the Board’s portion of the amount involved be paid under protest. This was carried. The Director-General of Health intimated that the Auckland Board is prepared to accept the offer of £6O in full settlement of its claims under Section 92 of the Hospital Act.—Re-, ceived.

The Hospital Boards’ Association forwarded advice as to the agreement for nurses taking a post-graduate course.—lt was resolved that the necessary forms be asked for.

The Director-General of Health sought information in regard to the nurses’ contributions to the 'National Provident Fund.—Referred to the secretary and tutor sister for attentifitt.

The Board decided to affirm the principle of fourth-year nurses training, and such registered nurses bo paid at the rate of £7O per annum. Messrs Kerr and Fraser will constitute the visiting committee for the month.

The medical superintendent (Dr. J. I<ewis Reed) reported as under:— There were admitted to hospital during the month 72 (43 males and 29 females); discharged 75 (44 males and 31 females); died 2 males. Remaining in hospital 63 (36 males and 27 females). There are 12 patients in isolation. There were 27 operations performed, of which 14 were major and 13 minor. The work fn the wards of the hospital has proceeded satisfactorily. The matron (Miss Drummond) reported as follows:—“The wards in the hospital this week are not very busy. Isolation has 14 patients, mostly scarlet fever. On the 9th 1 of last month Nurse Geenty was not fit for duty, so Dr. Reed advised her to take six months’ rest in the country. Nurse Nelson, has filled the vacancy. Nurses Ryan and Mitchell passed their State examination with honours. The Hastings Orphans gave a very nice little concert in the men’s ward on July 25th, which was much enjoyed by the patients and staff.”

The report of tho nurse at Poranghau (Miss L. McNamara) stated that during the month of July, 18 natients had been consulted, paying 50 visits in all. There were 26 visits to patients, and 21 to the cottage. Fees collected for the month- amounted to £3 Is 6d. The matron of the Rathbone Maternity Home (Miss L. Briidge) reported three births for the month of July. Fees taken in July amount to £2O 9«. The need of a lawn mower for the front lawn was stressed. The visiting committee for the month (Messrs P. Hunter and J. A. Kerr) reported that thev had visited the hospital and everything in the wards and buildings appeared in satisfactory order.
