AMY EVANS & FRASER GANGE

AT HASTINGS TO-NIGHT. At the Hastings Municipal Theatre to-night the two famous British singers, Miss Amy Evans and Mr. Fraser Gange, will make their reappearance after an absence of over six years, during which time the popular artists have been adding to their laurels on the concert pliZforins of England and America, until now they stand alone and foremost in popular esteem and favour. Their return to England was marked by a record tour in London and the provinces ; later they visited America, Miss Evans repeating earlier successes in that country, and Mr Gange making his debut. His success was extraordinary. The New York critics hailed him as the greatest baritone heard for years there, and during his first season in the United States he sang with most of the principal orchestras, and at the more important musical festivals, in addition to giving recitals in the principal cities. “He has a temperament that covers the gamut of the emotions from hroad humour to the subtlest suggestion of tragedy,” wrote one New York critic. Since that time, the talented baritone has won his way to the top of the tree, and ranks foremost amongst baritones to-day. The popularity of Miss Amy Evans, is equally as great; her triumphs with the Chicago Opera Company set the seal on her fine reputation, and her versatile talents make her one of the most sought-after singers. , Miss Evans’ high soprano has that ingrati ating warmth of tone which seems to be characteristic of Welsh artists. Her diction in Italian French, German, English, and Welsh, is so clear that a book of word's is superfluous at her concerts. Withal she possesses personal charm and youthful heauty, and she has the happy faculty of turning every audience of listeners into an audience of friends. Miss Enid Conley will be the solo pianiste-accompaniste.
