MANCHESTER UNITY

LOYAL HASTINGS LODGE. HALF-YEARLY MEETING. The half-yearly meeting of the Loyal Hastings Lodge, No. 6299 Manchester Unity Oddfellows, was held on Thursday last, Bro. R. T. Fargher. N.G., presiding. A motion of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Bro. T A, Hayes. Five candidates were initiated into the order, the charges being given by Bros. R. T. Fargher. L. C. Fargher and P. J. Priest. Sisters M. Stanley and M Pugh acting as conductors. The White degree was delivered by P.G. Bro. A R. Farmer. Nine new- members were elected to membership, subject to initiation. The quarterly accounts for medical and hospital benefits totalling £302 2/- were passed for payment The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—N.G. P.G. Bro. P. J Priest; V.G.. Bro. D. F. Sturm; E.S.. Sister V. R. Mclntyre. The newly-elected officers were installed into their respective posiftms by P.D.G.M. Bro Keith. P.N.G. Bro. H. McDonald was presented with a framed emblem of the order. Letters of recommendations were granted to Bros. J Drummond, now of Wellington, and F. J. Hayes, Waipukurau. It was unanimously decided to donate a bed to the Hastings Soldiers’ War Memorial Hospital. An optional levy will be struck to give the members an opportunity of contributing and the balance will' be paid from the lodge management fund. The unveiling of the lodge war memorial and honours board will take place on Sunday. June 3 (King’s Birthday) at 3 p.m. A special invitation is extended to soldier members and they are requested to wear their decorations and medals It was resolved that the name of the retiring 1.P.N.G.. Bro. L. C. Fargher, be placed on the merit board and that he be granted a certificate to take the Purple degree and be presented with an emblem of the order.

HASTINGS JUVENILE LODGE. The half-yearly meeting of the Hastings Juvenile Oddfellows, M.U., was held on Friday last. Bro Colin Taylor (president) in the chair. Five new members were initiated into the section, the charges being given by past-president. Sister M. George, and the president. Three junior members were accepted bringing the total membership at the end of the half-year up to 83. The following officers were elected for the next term--President, Sister M Hopcraft ;vice.president Bro W. P. Hayes; junior secretary Bro. J. Keith; guardian. Bro. R Butcher; warden. Sister R. Holland; conductor Bro. L. Drummond. Assistant officers Were appointed as follows: Supporters to past-president, P.P.’s Bro A. L. Holland and Sister M. George; supporters to president, Sisters M Love and N. Sigley; supporters to vicepresident. Bros. B. WaTe and A. M. Andrews. The newly-elected officers were invested and installed by P.G. Bro. George, financial secretary Lodge honours were accorded to the new officers who afterwards thanked the lodge in suitable terms for their confidence in placing them in office. At the conclusion of the meeting the members and parents were treated to an excellent supper prepared and dispensed by the social committee.
