A witness in the Napier Court this morning stated that he had been told that “a solicitor’s word carried some weight.” Mr A M. Mowlern, S.M. retorted: “Yes. they charge vou for advice, and that is the weight it carries.”
Sir R, D. Douglas McLean, who some time since presented a fine enlarged portrait of his father, the late Sir Donald Maclean, to the Turnbull Library Wellington, has now presented an equally fine framed portrait of the Hon. Algernon Gray Tollemache to the library. As Sir Douglas said in making the second presentation, these two men have perhaps done as much for the North Island of New Zealand as anv other two men in the histor- of the Donnn ion. These portraits are now hung on the walls of the Library.
Madame Elsa Stalia. the wellknown operatic singer, was a through passenger by the Aorangi on her wav to England after an enjoyable visit to her native land. Madame Stralia’s former home was in Adelaide.
