FOURTH 1927 ORPHANOSIUM

There was not a large attendance ot members on \\ednesuay nigiii on the occasion oi the tourth assemblage of local Orphans lor the current session, prevalent illness and counter attractions being responsible, but the proceedings were interesting. Chief Orphan G. L. Chatwin presided, and at the outset announced apologies Horn Orphans \\ ood (Past cinei;, Mann and Boyce. ihe programme tor which Orphans Wood, Duckworth and Windle were organisers, was opened with a very pleasing selection from the orchestra under the baton ot Deputy-Lhiet S H. Wood, and a further contribution trom this able and loyal body ot in suumeiiLuhats was an overture following upon the supper. Orphan \\ . McKenzie was in good torm as an exponent of Highland anti Irish dances and met with a cordial recep tion. Orphan L. Maloney contri buted several violin numbers, while Orphan K. Keir (a newly-elected mem her) marked his entry by rendering a song in a manner that called forth h.arty appreciation. A quintette of instrumentalists — Orphans Wood, Leigh, King, Annand, Reckin— gave a first-class item and >ere vociferously recalled. A number of wireless features were introduced for the first time at an orphanosium, Mr L. Hawke being responsible for operating a set. GENERAL. 1 he pay-outwfor cream suppliers received in July by the Waipukurau Co-operative Dairy Co. reveals a total of £’36l 11/10, on a price basis of 1/4 per lb for first-grade and 1/44 P er lb. for superfine.
