UNUSUAL PROCEDURE
COUNCIL MEETING AT MEMBER’S BEDSIDE.
RESOLUTIONS PASSED,
Auckland, Aug. 25.
Last night four members of the Avondale Borough gathered around the bedside of a fifth member in a private hospital to transact business. This was created by the exceptional circumstances in which the Council is placed by the sudden resignation of the Mayor and the remaining three members.
Application has been made to the Minister of Internal Affairs to sanction the filling of the vacancies until the Borough amalgamates with the City, or, if this is impracticable, until the election is held on September 15. The meeting lasted half an hour and several resolutions were passed relating to essential work and confirmation of payments previously authorised by the minority.
