ALKALI DRUG HABIT
A DENTISTS WARNING
Melbourne, Aug. 25.
Dr. Pickerill, of Dunedin, addressing the Dental Congress, said there existed a serious alkali drug habit, people dosing themselves with bismuth, sodium carbonate or anti-acid> tor indigestion. The amount ot alkali in the form of tooth powders and pastes, part? ally consumed, and sodium carbonate, wholly consumed in artificial foods and drinks, must, lie said, be very considerable. In some cases alkali’' were necessary to rest strained o r acutely inflamed digestive organs, hut it could not be continued indefimtelv without harm resulting.
