FAREWELL TO REP. TEAM. PRESENTATION OE BADGES. A very enjoyable evening was spent at “The Ritz,’’ Hastings, last evening, when a farewell social was given to the Hawke’s Bay representative basket-ball team who leave next Saturday to play in the New Zealand basketball tournament at Wellington. The tables were arranged in oblong fashion, and fully fifty were seated, while an entertaining programme, broken by an interval for supper, was presented. The following items were given:—Pianoforte solo, Miss Edith Blair; speech by chairwoman. Miss Boyd; song, Mr. Avison; duet (piano and saxophone), members of Dixie Orchestra ; recitation, Mr. Brindsley; song, Miss Carrie Wallace; recitation, Miss Blott. Supper. Presentation of Hawke’s Bay rep badges by the chairwoman, Miss Boyd ; song, Miss N. Hickling; recitation, Mr. Avison; saxophone and piano duet. Dixie members • recitation, Mr. Brindsley; song, Mrs. Brindsley. Interest centred in the presentation of the badges which were in the form of a shield to sew on a blazer pocket, the colours being black and white with H.8.8i8. embroidered thereon. Miss Jean Law, captain of the rep. team, made a speech in reply to Miss Boyd. MEMBERS OF TEAMThe following are the members of the rep. team:—Misses Law (captain), E. Baird, M. Melrose, D. Crumpton, J. Irwin, M. Manning, 1. Snaddon, T. Smith, M. Lean, M. Diamond, D. Spurdie. Mrs S. Nesbit is manageress. The selectors are Mrs Gray, Miss Boyd, Mrs Nesbit, Mr Rigby. Mrs. Nesbit has been chosen to select the rep. team for the North Island, in the North versus South Island match, to be played during the course of the tournament;* Credit is due to Miss Crumpton who has been for many years in all things connected with New Zealand basketball. For five years she played with the Wellington 8.8. Reps., and for two years was secretary of the N.Z. Basketball Association. Miss Crumpton has within three months formed the H.B, Basketball Association, and arranged 16 teams, and ulso designed the rep. badges just presented.
