VALEDICTORY
FUNCTION AT TARADALE FAREWELL TO MR F. B. BARBER. A very pleasant function took place yesterday afternoon at Taradale when between twenty and thirty of his clients met to take leave of Mr FB. Barber, manager of the Commercial Bank of Australia, of Napier, who has been promoted to Wanganui. Mr. W. Whitton, on behalf of those present, voiced the general regret that was felt at Mr. Barber’s departure, but at the same time congratulated him on well-deserved promotion. As a tangible proof of their esteem and regard he handed to him a ease of Loewe pipes and a supply of cigarettes, and appropriate mementoes for Mrs Barber.
Mr. Jarvis endorsed the good wishes of the last speaker and particularly mentioned the kindly feelings that existed between Mr. Barber and his clients in Taradale. The opening up of the branch at Taradale had been a great boon to the district. Mr. C. H. Williams spoke in a similar strain, stressing the point that Mr. Barber had given the branch work his own supervision and attention, which accounted for its success.
Mr. Barber very feelingly replied, stating that he had very much enjoyed his visits to Taradale. He thanked them on behalf of Mrs. Barber and himself for their gifts and kind expressions of goodwill which would always be a pleasant memory to him. The singing of “He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” followed by a dainty afternoon tea kindly supplied by Mrs. Richards, brought a very happy gathering to a close.
