The Pakuranga Hunt Club’s annual steeplechase meeting is being held at Ellerslie in dull weffther before a good attendance. The track is heavy. Results:—

LABOUR DAY RACING. WAIKATO CONTROVERSY ENDED. Wellington, Aug. 20. It is understood that after a good deal of discussion and a number of conferences, a settlement of the trouble in connection with the Labour Day dates has been arrived at.

Yivfierday racing representatives met members of the legislature concerned, including the Premier, and the whole matter was reviewed at great length. Official announcement from the Cabinet has been delayed by the illness of the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. R. F. Bollard, but it is stated that the Waikato Racing Club paved the way out of the rouble by giving way to the Hunt Club and the latter will race on Labour Day.
