THE PICTURE HOUSES.

MUNICIPAL. Syd. Chaplin’s latest comedy classic, the Warner adaptation of Bruce Bairnsfather's world famous story of the funny side of the war, “The Better ’Ole,” comes to the Municipal Theatre to-night. “The Better ’Ole” is the latest of the Syd. Chaplin laughter classics, and on its performances to date, looks like being the greatest- The laughs come thick and fast during the entire ten reels of the film. The antics of Old Bill, Bert and Alf behind the German lines in the disguise of a horse, and later as Fritz soldiers, being absolutely the funniest episodes ever recorded by a camera. A big cast of funmakers support Syd., including Harold Goodwin, Theodore Lorch, Ed, Kennedy, Charles Gerrard (all of whom appeared in “The Man on the Box”), Doris Hill, Tom McGuire, Jack Ackroyd, Hank Mann and Tom Kennedy. In support of this fine comedy a big bill of supports is also screened. COSY DE LUXE.

One of the very good reasons for the exceptional interest displayed in “The Show,” a new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayei picture, is the fact that Renee Adoree, the heroine of “The Big Parade,’ ’is again playing opposite John Gilbert. Before -‘The Big Parade,” nobody seemed to know very much about this little star, but since her unforgettable portrayal of “Melisande,” she has been recognised as one of the finest actresses on the screen. In “The Show,” Miss Adoree is see as a dancer in a Hungarian circus, a role that reveals most clearly hei emotional ability, and the fact that she completely submerges her own personality under that of the character she assumes. John Gilbert plays the part of a “spruiker,” an interpretation full of dramatic possibilities, and of which he takes every advantage. Lionel Barrymore has a leading role, and other prominent members of the east include Dorothy Sebastian and Edward Connelly. This picture will be shown to-night at the Cosy Theatre.
