OBJECTION TO SYSTEM 1000 ENGINEERS ATTEND COURT PARTIES TO AGAIN CONFER. Sydney, Aug. 16. The city witnessed an amazing scene at the lunch hour, when 20C\' engineers, 111 columns of fburs, marchpd to the Industrial Arbitration Court, where 21 of their comrades had to appear to answer a summons issued under the new award, which provides for daily hiring. A stop-work meeting of all engineers working under the Federal award decided to absent themselves from work for the aiternoon and march from the Trades Hall to the Arbitration Court. Aodressm<’ a mas-, meeting at the Trades Hall prior to the procession, the Federal secretary of the Amalgamated Engineering Unions said the union completely disapproved of any demonstration, but he was overruled and the men took matters in their own hands. The Court was guarded by the police, but the demonstrators were very quiet and orderly. When the cases were called it was explained that each of the 21 men was called upon to show cause why a fine of £5OO or three months’ gao should not be imposed for failure to obev the Court order to return to work. The Court adjourned until tomorrow to give the parties a further opportunity to confer with a view to the settlement of the dispute. WITHOUT RESULT. (Received 17. 9.55 a.m.) Sydney, Aug. 17. Following on Court proceedings in the engineering case, the parties to the dispute met to consider proposals for settlement but without result. Negotiations will be continued today when Judge Beeby may participate.
