LIFT FATALITY
POSTMAN CRUSHED TO DEATH (Special to “Tribune.”) Auckland, Aug. 17. A shocking fatality occurred in the lilt at the Auckland Post Office this morning, when Thomas R. A. Smith, a postman, was crushed to death between the lift and the side of the lift-well. No one saw the accident happen. It is surmised that Smith either slipped or fainted as he was bringing the lift up from the basement to the mail-room floor. There is no door to the lift.
Smith was a married man living at Cardwell road, Onehunga. He had beep with the Postal Department for 22J rears but the unfortunate man bad resigned from the department and was working in the mail-room until August 27, when his resignation was due. He was going into private business.
