Miss Florence Sweeney, of Waipu kurau, is on a visit to Hastings trad is staying with Mr and Airs B. Hall. Lyndon road.
Air W. S. Thompson, stationmaster at Waipukurau. is at present in Christchurch, where he is spending part of his annual holiday leave. Mr J. O'Connor is the acting-station-master.
Air Hector Robertson well-known in Waipukurau as an ex-meinber of the Post and Telegraph staff is at present spending a holiday in the town, having arrived on Saturday from I’atetonga. where he is postmaster.
Mr James Oliver Curwood tiio explorer and writer, died at Owosso Alichigira, on Saturday from streptococcus infection says a New York cable. Mr Curwood was 48 years of age.
Bishoji Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, returned bv the Aorangi after live months abroad. When in Ireland he secured seven young priests for New Zealand-, who will arrive before Christmas He says that Italy seemed prosperous, and nK'ireiitlv there is no uncniplovment there. There was an air of prosperity and happiness about Ireland also. —Press Association.
