HASTINGS A.A. CLUB.
FIRST ANNUAL MEETING. The first annual meeting of the Hastings Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will be held this evening, when the report will be read, showing that the record achieved was good and that, taken as a whole, a higher level in amateur athletics was reached than had ever been attained in this district, the outstanding feature being the Royal meeting, at which teams from Masterton, Waipawa, Dannevirke, Napier and Wellington competed. Ten meetings were held during the season, the support of the public being very gratifying. Hastings was inchided in Mr. R. W. Lamb's itinerary and the “Lamb” meeting showed a profit of £5 9/6. Regarding the Royal meeting (the report states) the chib's thanks are due to the Mayor and council of Hastings. Such eminent champions as Rose. Newton, Gibbons. Grose and Oak'ev raced at the meeting, and to procure these distinguished athletes it cost £3O 15/6. Special thanks are due to Sergeant-Major OLenry, as well as to Messrs H. Brown, F. J. Corbin and E. Bowen.
Following hold the club championships for the season:—loo yards. C. J. Robertson; 440 yards. N. Grenside: 880 yards, R. Verry; one mile cycle, F. J. Hayes. The challenge cup conjpetition resulted: Newton Cup, N. Grenside 440 vards championship; Rusbatch (Cup. G. R. White, most points in running events: Sanders Cup, F. .!, Hayes, most .points in cycling events. There are still a number of subscriptions outstanding. The financial position is satisfactory. with a credit of £56 1/4 in the bank.
The club has many reliable friends, and in this respect the club ha s to thank the Borough Council, the Y.M.C.A.. the Rovers Club. Mrs B. A. Sanders. Messrs H. M. Campbell. M.P.. S. C, Rusbatch. H.
