SYMPATHY WITH SACCO AND VANZETTI. MOTION OF PROTEST AGAINST EXECUTION. IBy Cable —Press Assn. — Copyright.) (Received 15, 10.30 a.m.) Sydney, Aug. 14. A largely attended meeting in the Domain, under the Red Flag, carried a motion of protest against the execution of Sacco and Vanzetti. It was resolved to cable the United States Government calling on it to release the prisoners. Among the speakers was Mr. Stuart Robertson, State Minister of Health. MASS MEETINGS IN NEW ZEALAND. (Special to “Tribune.”) Auckland Aug. 15. Next Sunday mass meetings will be held throughout New Zealand to protest against the pending execution oi the two Italians, Sacco and Vanzetti.
The first New Zealand protest aas made yesterday at a meeting in Gray street, which over 1000 attended.
A resolution was passed and a copy forwarded to the American Consul. It will later be cabled to the President of the American Republic.
The resolution read as follows:— “This mass meeting of Auckland citizens emphatically protests against the contemplated judicial murder of Sacco and Vanzetti, whom we believe to be innocent.” James Purtell was chairman of the meeting and Messrs. Jack Basham and Jim Edwards were the speakers. Basham dealt exhaustively with the actual case while Edwards dealt with the international aspect of the case and showed the discrepancies iu tne American law and also said that the men were tried because of their political convictions.
The meeting closed with the singing of “The Red Flag” and the ‘ International.”
