In Taumarunui at 3.40 o’clock on Sunday morning, fire broke out in a dwelling with shop attached ori upied by Mrs M. Paul and owned by A. Leese and S. Williams. The brigade, which was quickly on the scene, made a brilliant save, confining the damage to the front portion of the building. The stock in the shop, consisting of stationery, fruit, and confectionery, was considerably damaged by smoke and water. The building was insured for £675 and the contents of the house for £250; the stock and fittings were covered for £3so.—Press Association. In the Palmerston North Police Court Frederick Edward Rowse and Harry Janies Edkins. pleaded guilty to several charges of theft and receiving in connection with bicycles missing in Palmerston North. They were committed to the Supreme Court. Wellington, for sentence.
