LET THERE BE LIGHT
BRIGHTENING UP HASTINGS. COUNCIL GIVEN STATISTICS. “Getting more like London every day” may well be applied to Hastings, and that the “City Fathers” have a progressive spirit was indicated at the regular meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last evening when His Worship the Mayor (Mr G. A. Maddison) presented the Councillors with a few statistics relative to the number of street, lights in the borough. The figures given are as below:— Street All night Parking lamps light area. March 31— '1923 .... 227 — — Julv 25— ■1925 .... 300 10 May 1— '.1927 .... 337 10 20
“With these that have been recommended to-night, the total is 443,” stated Mr Maddison, “which means a practically 100 per cent increase in the last four years.” Following upon the report of the Mayor and the Electrical Engineer, the committee recommended to the council that additional lamps be placed in the follbging positions of the borough:—Maddison street (2), corner Jcrvois and Miller streets corner Princes and Albert streets, corner Princes and Alexandra streets, corner Haig street and Terrace road, corner Agnew street and Southland road, St. Aubyn street, midway between Nelson street and Tomoana road corner Freyberg street, and Agnew road (one each).
The council authorised the installations.
