“I Like Jazz"

FAMOUS VIOLINIST’S VIEWS. A FEW REMARKS ABOUT RUSSIA. (Special to “Tribune.”) Auckland, Aug. 10. On his own admission Jascha Heifetz dances better than ever, he still likes Jazz music, though it must be good. Heifetz laughed wheu he made these confessions yesterday on the deck ot rue Ulimaroa. “People disapproved when 1 said that 1 like jazz and thought that it was only a pose,” said neifetz. “1 like dancing, and 1 like jazz; they are a reaction tor me from the more serious moments ot my hie.” Jascha Heifetz is a most remarkable young man. He is omy 26, ana years ago was acknowledged to be one of the world s famous viuiinisis. in.. is his second tour of the world. Heiletz is sure of one thing; he is returning to Russia at the invitation of the Soviet Government and will give a series ot concerts in Petrograd and Moscow, these are the only two cities he will visit. “Are the reports of executions in Russit incorrect?” Heifetz was asked. “1 do not know,” he replied- “They are not all correct. We are too far away to know the truth about Russia. 1 have spoken to several musical men and they are most enthusiastic about Russia and its appreciation of the arts. They all want to go back again.” Heifetz left Russia in 1917 and has not been back since. His accompanist on the trip, Irador Achron, was a friend of Heiftz many years ago when they were boys together. Even in those days Achron accompanied Heifetz at concerts.

Heifetz has just concluded a tour of the East where the audiences, he says, are wonderfully appreciative. In India large numbers of Parsees attended the concerts as well as the white people.
