(To the Editor). Sir,—I read .Mrs E. M. Millar’s letter with some surprise. It’s only natural she should defend her husband, but he never set the town on fire. Other Mayors not mentioned have done as much as Mr Mlilar and no limelights- Mrs Millar mentions that her husband said if the ratepayers raised £25,000 as a loan, the rates would be reduced and casually remarks, “Why weren’t they?” Ah —that's the rub. Mr Miliar only remained one year as Mayor and others had to shoulder his responsibilities. Yours, etc.,
