THE MARDI GRAS OF 1925.

SCENES OF ACTIVITY. BIG EFFORT FOR BOXING DAY. Everything in connection with the Mardi Gras is well in Hand, and onlj a continuation of the present fine weather is required to ensure the success of the Napier Thirty Thousand Club’s annual effort to provide rational amusement and entertainment for young and old. The Marine Parade presents a scent of activity, as the merry-go-round i> in readiness to commence operations and the showmen are busy putting the finishing touches to their side-shows, which are numerous and of great variety.

Entries continue to be received for almost every item on the programme and competition promises to be ver) keen. The latest to hand is an entr\ from Taradale in the youths’ tug-o'-war, making seven in the youths’ section, and ten in the boys’ class. The Y.M.C.A. gymnasium has beer secured as a dressing-room for the boxing and tug-o’-war competitors. On Boxing morning the Napier .Marine Band will play, and on Boxing afternoon the Napier Citizens’ Bant will occupy the rotunda. It is hoped that on Boxing night the masset bands will render a programme, whic] event is being looked forward to. The whole of the events are. stil open to’everyone, and entries may be made by ringing ’phone 13315, or call ing at the Mardi Gras rooms, whicl will be open to-night from 7.30 to 9 The offices are, of course, also oper during the day-time. Competitors maeven take part, whether they have re corded their names in advance, or have omitted to do so. Admission charges are: Adults 1/wliich admits all day and night; chii dren sixpence. Patrons are advised t< pin their tickets on their lapels oi some other conspicuous part of theii attire, and so move in or out of tin enclosure at their will. The latest arrival is Apdale’s anima circus, including the baboon coinediai and over 60 animals of all varieties.
