Victoria at trie Wickets HENDRY 213, NOT OUT. NEW ZEALAND SCORE PASSED. Melbourne, Dec. 20. The weather was fine and cool and the wicket good for the resumption of the match. Victoria versus New Zealand. I Hope and Cunningham opened the 1 bowling. Mayne, when three, gave a chance to Lowry behind the wicket off Cunningham, who, after bowling two overs strained himself when fielding, and had to have a good spell from bowling. The batsmen were’ cautious and the scoring rate was slow. The bowling was fairly accurate and good fielding saved many runs. Mayne i reached the hall century in 88 minutes. The partnership was dissolved at 91, i Cosgrove, who had played an unenterprising game, being caught easily at , mid-on. He had bit one boundary. : 3layne was caught behind the wickets ■ in the last over before lunch. He ! played nice strokes at times, and hit ' two boundaries, tut lie was slow bel tween the wickets The century api peared lor 111 minutes’ play. Hendry i and Atkinson added 50 in 28 minutes i of bright batting. Hendry being in great form and scoring all round the field. Cunningham was howling well, making pace off the wicket. At last Atkinson was beaten all the way by a good ball from Blunt. Dacre, Alloo and Oliver were frequently applauded for gram] fielding. Mitchell was badly beaten by one b J dl and bowled by tlie next from Cunningham. The second ceniury was hoisted in 178 minutes. In the first over after tea. Ransford was nicely caught in the slips. He had been at the crease half an hour and hit one boundary. Hendry’s century came up for 127 minutes’ batting, an excellent display. Cunningham maintained good form with the ball and Dai re was repeatedly cheered lo r his great cover point fielding. Hendry was opening his shoulders for splendid drives, and made his first mistake when 120. mishitting one from Cunningham over slip to flip barrier. PATRICK’S PROBLEM. The New Zealanders' total was passed after 250 minutes’ batting, compared with 297 minutes taken by the New Zealanders. Hendry notched 150 in 161 minutes, the last 50 taking 31 minutes. The batsman was getting runs everywhere, and Patrick had a problem to place the field to stop strokes. Lansdowne was very slow, though the howling was now losing its sting, but the fielding was still good. Patrie]?. Tn stopping a hard drive by Hendry, split his finger and retired, Gillespie fielding substitute. Hendry added a hundred while his partner made '26. When he was 192 Hendry was nearly yorked by Alcott, but otherwise he rarely flattered the bowling. He reached his second century in 202 minutes, and 400 went up for 306 minutes’ play. Hendry gave a groat display, hitting seventeen fours. He batted -08 minutes and Lansdowne 89 minutes. The partnership wielded 162 runs. The attendance was 5000, and the gate receipts £lB7. Scores
